Abstract(s)
Objective: To analyze the immediate effects of posterior muscle chain stretching on pain relief from the central trigger point of the masseter in physiotherapy students at University Fernando Pessoa with Temporo-Mandibular Dysfunction. Methods: It is a randomized controlled trial with 43 male and female subjects with an average of 22,72 years old, randomly assigned into two groups: control group (CG) n=22, that only assumed the position of Dorsal Decubitus and experimental group (EG) n=11, submitted to a posterior chain stretching, maintained for 30 minutes. Both groups were evaluated and submitted to the procedure only once. Pain and pain threshold (PT) were evaluated from the Visual Numerical Scale (EVN) and using pressure algometer, respectively, at the beginning and at the end of the procedure, in the central trigger point of the masseter muscle bilaterally. Results: After the application of the technique, it was found that in the CG there were significant improvements only in the PT, while in the EG there were only significant improvements in the PT. Comparative groups only become significant differences in the PT on the left side at the final moment. Conclusion: in patients with TMD, immediate posterior chain lengthening in the relief of pain in masseter in this study demonstrated a significant improvement in the pain threshold on the left side.
