Abstract(s)
Objective: To determine low back pain prevalence in young adults and to evaluate the resistance of the lumbar spine flexor and extensor muscles in this same sample, comparing gender and between those who reported and those who did not report low back pain symptoms in the last 7 days. Methodology: A characterization questionary was used with questions related to each study participant. Two tests were performed, the Biering Sorensen test and the Ito Shirado test. A total of 106 young adults from 18 to 28 years old were enrolled in the study. The maximum resistance of the flexors and extensors of the lumbar spine in each sex was evaluated through a specific position maintained for a maximum time timed by the examinator. Results: The prevalence of lumbar pain throughout life in young adults is very high (71.7%), being more significant in women. Also, the two RACES present a different ratio, where we found unequal strength between the extensors and flexors in each sex. Conclusion: The female is more exposed to low back pain. In this review, with the analyzed studies, we have seen that reduction in the trunk flexor muscles performance and more specifically of the abdominal muscles is associated with low back pain occurrence.
