Abstract(s)
A diabetes mellitus representa um sério e grave problema de saúde pública em Portugal. A diabetes é uma patologia com importantes e graves implicações sociais, económicas e humanas. Em 2012 atinge mais de 3 milhões de pacientes dos quais 92% com diabetes do tipo 2. A gestão da diabetes está actualmente focada na detecção da doença, no controle glicémico e na prevenção de complicações maiores. Actualmente, é conhecida a existência de uma relação saúde oral/diabetes, embora ainda seja muitas vezes ignorada pelas equipas médicas. A diabetes é uma doença que interfere com os tratamentos efetuados pelo Médico Dentista, com várias especificidades do tratamento e gestão de pacientes diabéticos em cirurgia oral. Este trabalho tem como objetivo abordar a doença Diabetes Mellitus apoiando a classificação da doença, os aspectos clínicos da doença, bem como, as suas complicações quando os pacientes diabéticos são submetidos em especial, a tratamento dentário cirúrgico ou não.

This work aims to address the disease Diabetes Mellitus supporting the classification of the disease, the clinical aspects of the disease, as well as its complications when diabetic patients are subjected in particular to surgical treatment or not.
