Abstract(s)
The individual capacity to love has been strongly linked to mental health and seen as an important indicator of the results of psycho-therapeutic treatment. The goal of this thesis is to complete a pilot study looking into adaptation and validation of the Capacity to Love Inventory from Kapusta et al. (2018) for the Portuguese population. The methods consisted in instrument translation and retroversion, and analysis of the psychometric qualities (exploratory factor analysis and reliability). The Capacity to Love Inventory was administered atone sample of 473 participants between the ages of 18 and 74. The results indicate that, within the exploratory factor analysis methods used, it was not possible to replicate the same distribution of the items through six dimensions/sub-scales proposed to the original instrument, however, it presented a high level of internal consistency, presenting a Cronbach alfa of total scale 0,93 and of sub-scale varying between 0,72 and 0,88, thus suggesting a valid argument. It also reflected on the contribution of the adaptation and validation of the instrument for the Portuguese people, as well as some limitations and, consequentially, suggestions for future research.
