Abstract(s)
Introduction: Chronic low back pain is associated with severe pain, reduced mobility of the spine and decreased overall muscle strength. Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glides (SNAGs) is a manual therapy technique developed by Mulligan frequently used in low back pain. Aim: To analyse the effectiveness of Mulligan's SNAGs technique in the treatment of chronic non-specific low back pain. Methodology: A search in Pubmed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) and Web of Science to identify randomised controlled trials evaluating the effects of SNAGs technique on non-specific low back pain. Results: Five articles were selected, which included a total of 193 individuals, with a mean age of 35.2 years. All studies examined the effect of the SNAGs technique on pain. Function and range of motion were assessed in four articles. Muscle stiffness, speed of movement and kinesiophobia were assessed in one. Except for two studies that performed a one-session protocol, the duration ranged from four weeks to one month. All studies showed significant improvements in the parameters evaluated. Conclusion: SNAGs technique seems to have a positive effect on pain, range of motion and function in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain.
