Abstract(s)
A versão traduzida e adaptada do Brief Music Questionnaire demonstrou excelentes propriedades psicométricas.
In the Portuguese context, the assessment of the experience with music has been an area of growing interest, however, the lack of specific tools and instruments suited to the local culture and language is still evident. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to translate, adapt and validate the Brief Music Experience Questionnaire (BMEQ) for the Portuguese population. This study's sample consisted of 369 adults (131 male, 238 female), 64.5% male and 35.5% female, aged between 18 and 67. The average age was 34, and the majority of participants were single (n=207; 56%). The Portuguese version of the BMEQ, the Mental Health Continuum Scale (MHC-SF), the Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale (EADS-21) and finally the sociodemographic questionnaire were used for data collection. The translated and adapted version of the Brief Music Questionnaire showed excellent psychometric properties. The analysis revealed a robust internal consistency (α = 0.76), confirming its reliability. In this way, it suggests that the participants' responses remain consistent over time. Through exploratory factor analysis, 9 main factors were identified which explained 60% of the total variance, indicating a robust structure which reflects the complexity of the musical experience in the sample studied. The present study revealed that there is a strong link between musical experience (BMEQ) and various factors related to well-being (MHC-SF). Similarly, the investigation of correlations between the different scales of the BMEQ and assessments of psychopathology (EADS-21) indicated that participation in musical activities can have an influence on symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress.
