Abstract(s)
A monografia intitulada “Estudo de Caso de um Indivíduo Idoso Demenciado” tem como principal objectivo a realização e descrição de todo o processo de avaliação clínica multidimensional de um sujeito de 76 anos, previamente diagnosticado com Demência de Alzheimer.
Assim, direccionou-se a avaliação psicológica para várias domínios: a história de vida do indivíduo, para a qual se recorreu à entrevista clínica; a dimensão cognitiva através da administração do Mini-Mental State Examination, do Teste do Relógio e da escala cognitiva da Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale; a dimensão psicológica, cuja avaliação foi feita pelo recurso à escala não cognitiva da Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale, à Geriatric Depression Scale e à Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia; e a dimensão funcional através da aplicação do Functional Activities Questionnaire.
Genericamente, os resultados apontaram para a presença de diversos défices cognitivos, nomeadamente no que respeita às funções mnésicas, à praxia e às funções executivas. A diminuição da capacidade funcional evidenciada pelo indivíduo parece estar relacionada com a presença desses défices que são, por sua vez, consequência de doença cerebrovascular. Face às evidências encontradas formulou-se o diagnóstico de Demência Vascular, em detrimento do diagnóstico inicial.
The main goal of the monograph entitled “Case Study of an Older Demented Individual” is the performance and the description of the entire clinical multidimensional evaluation process. The study was performed in a 76 years old man, previously diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia. Therefore, the psychological evaluation was directed to several domains: the life history of the individual was achieved with a clinical interview; cognitive dimension through the administration of the Mini-Mental State Examination, the Clock Test and the cognitive scale of the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale; the psychological dimension in which the evaluation was done by the non-cognitive scale of the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale, the Geriatric Depression Scale and the Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia; and the functional dimension was achieved by applying the Functional Activities Questionnaire. Globally, the results have shown the presence of several cognitive deficits mainly in the mnesic functions, in the praxis and in the executive functions. The reduction of the individual’s functional capacity seemed to be connected with the presence of those deficits, which are the consequence of a cerebrum-vascular disease. According to the evidences found, the Vascular Dementia was diagnosed to this individual, in opposition to the initial diagnose.
