Abstract(s)
The Entry into higher education is a milestone in the lives of many students. Each individual experiences this new stage differently, depending on their individual characteristics, but also on the environment in which they are inserted, because the demands imposed by the current society require a higher level of skills and personal skills. There are several factors that have an unfavorable influence on sleep hygiene, resulting in excessive daytime sleepiness; as well as in subjective well-being (satisfaction with life, positive affect and negative affect). The causes of excessive daytime sleepiness are multiple and refer to chronic sleep deprivation, characterized by the high probability of the individual feeling impelled to sleep at inappropriate times. College students are a population prone to sleep disorders due to various factors, such as the workload and the requirement of high performance. They often present high levels of anxiety associated with the need to perform well in the studies and in the face of the difficulties presented for survival away from the family. Now, considered satisfaction with life is subjective judgment that each individual makes of his own life, according to the pattern pre-established by him. Being that, satisfaction with life is related to indicators of positive psychological functioning. The university students perceive in a singular way all the changes that emerge from their entrance or permanence in the university world, reason why this individuality allows them to experience positive or negative affections. Thus, positive affection reflects the level of enthusiasm, alertness, and activity that characterizes the individual, while negative affection manifests the general dimension of subjective anxiety and unpleasant commitment. The present exploratory and cross - sectional study intends to analyze if there is an association between sleep, life satisfaction and affection in students of higher education. A non-probabilistic, convenience sample was studied, consisting of 264 students who were attending the first cycle of studies in higher education. A sociodemographic questionnaire and three scales were used: Life Satisfaction Scale - SWLS, Affect Scale - PANAS and the Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Scale - ESE. Concluded, with greater relevance, that the subjective well-being is related to the health perception; that affection interferes with excessive daytime sleepiness and is related to satisfaction with life.
