Abstract(s)
This study aims objective to analyze the results achieved by a group of patients with vocal fold paralysis using audio-perceptual evaluation, before and after Speech Therapy intervention. It was performed a retrospective analysis of the results obtained in a group of 75 patients with vocal fold paralysis, which were submitted to Speech Therapy at the Centro Hospitalar do Porto- Hospital de Santo António. It became clear that the type pf paralysis was variable, however most of the subjects displayed unilateral left vocal fold paralysis in the paramedian position. The differences in audio perceptual classification, based on the RASAT scale parameters, proved to be statistically significant (p < 0.01), except in the strain parameter. The role of Speech Therapy in cases of vocal fold paralysis is effective and the patients show substantial improvements of voice quality with this intervention.
