O presente trabalho propõe a realização de um estudo para determinar as razões que levam os idosos e seus familiares a optar por residir num lar, a partir de determinado momento nas suas vidas.
As orientações das politicas sociais pretendem evitar a institucionalização, com a criação de valências de apoio á terceira idade, tais como o serviço de apoio domiciliário, o centro de dia e convívio, entre outros, pelo que o aumento da procura dos lares residenciais pelos idosos e suas famílias é aparentemente uma contradição
Este projecto faz uma breve incursão pelas questões principais relacionadas com a velhice, bem como uma breve análise comparativa das características das famílias tradicionais (e da sua pluralidade) e da família moderna (na sua singularidade).
A escolha da metodologia orientou-se pelas características dos dados a recolher e a tratar, pelo que recaiu sobre a entrevista semi-directiva aos idosos e seus familiares.
The present work proposes the realization of a study to establish the reasons that leads the elderly and their family to choose living in a home for seniors, at a point of their lives. The social politic orientations intend to avoid the institutionalization, with the creation of some valences of support to the third age, such as the home support service, day center and socializing, among others. Thereby, there is a contradiction with the increasing search for home seniors of the elderly and families. This project does a brief incursion to the main issues related with the old age, as well as a brief comparative analysis of the characteristics of traditional families (in their plurality) and the modern family (in their singularity). The selected methodologies were driven by the characteristics of the data to collect and treat, therefore it felled in the semi-directive interview to the elderly and families.
