Total hip replacement (THR) characterized by joint replacement of the hip and is indicated for severe and continuous pain, causing inability to work or participate in social activities or daily life. Objective: The aim of this bibliographic review was to investigate the effect of exercise therapy in elderly THR. Methodology: A survey was conducted in PubMed and B-on data to identify randomized controlled trials with THR, published in English from 2009 to 2014. Were excluded studies whose participants had THR due to another problem than osteoarthritis and averages less than 65 years old. Results: 5 randomized controlled articles were identified. Conclusion: The aquatic environment appeared to influence positively the function after THR. The terrestrial environment is controversy among authors, due to the variability of protocols used in rehabilitation, however supervised exercises rehabilitation showed agreement between the studies as more beneficial.
