Abstract(s)
Sports journalism is a strand of journalistic specialization that has great importance in Portugal due to football, which is the king sport and that moves unimaginable amounts of money and people. In Portugal there are three daily sports printouts, A Bola, O Jogo and Record. However, the question arises whether newspapers are about sports or football. In order to answer this question of what space the modalities occupy in national sports, with this study of the press inequalities between football and modalities I intend to find the answers to this. To understand the reason for this dichotomy, the three sports journals were studied for a certain period of time, in order to obtain the answers I am looking for and analyze them quantitatively. Interviews were also conducted with journalists to better understand the perspective of newsrooms and what leads them to make certain decisions and what news should occupy a certain space. After the analysis, it was noticeable that football is clearly the majority holder of the space it occupies in the sports print and, the journalists confirm that otherwise, it would be impossible for the daily newspapers to survive.
