- Stay or leave abusive dating relationships: portuguese victims’ reasons and barriersPublication . Caridade, Sónia; Pinheiro, Inês; Dinis, Maria Alzira PimentaThe decision to stay or leave an abusive relationship is multifactorial and frequently involves a cyclic process involving several phases. This article presents a qualitative analysis regarding the reasons and barriers to stay or leave an abusive dating relationship, as well as the challenges that it implies. A semi-structured, in-depth interview was used to collect data from thirteen dating victims, aged 17–30 years and mainly female (n = 12). The emotional and affective dependence of the partner and the belief that behaviour may change emerge as the main reasons presented by the victims to remain in an abusive relationship. Shame, fear of losing the partner, and failure to recognize the abusive relationship were reported as the main barriers to leave the abusive relationship, thus making it difficult to seek help. Understanding reasons to stay in, or barriers to leave, an abusive relationship is fundamental to promoting help-seeking behaviours in victims of dating violence (DV), particularly in the case of young people, since it has serious implications in the developmental pathway of this age group.
- Performative poetry as program, programmed poetry as performancePublication . Torres, Rui; Dias, Sandra GuerreiroInnovative forms of poetry such as language art and experimental poetry have adopted intersemiotic processes and linguistic constraints in their codification, promoting rereading and transgression of technical apparatuses from the techno-capitalist societies. In addition, new inventive forms of digital language art, such as electronic poetry, have integrated generativity, indeterminacy and combinatorics in their programming, stimulating the reinvention and subversion of computing mechanisms from the networked societies. Through the appropriation of media, poetry articulates creative strategies that question the interface between arts and languages, forms and mechanisms. The experimental attitude of performative poetry presents itself as a program. Similarly, using the potentialities of the computer as a semiotic machine, programmed poetry can be regarded as performative, producing unique, unrepeatable events. Poetry and performance can thus be regarded as floating entities, promoting the transition from a fixed order to an economy of circulations. This scenario fuels the discussion concerning the connections between poetry, performance and program, supporting our reflections through the presentation and description of different examples of poetic intervention in the Portuguese context, which use programming and coding to reconfigure the awareness of language and mediation.
- ‘Mértola, a lab for the future’ as a transformational plan for the mediterranean semi-arid region: a learning case based on landsenses ecologyPublication . Cortegano Valente, Marta; Dias, Ricardo; Vidal, Diogo Guedes; Seixas, Paulo CastroLearning cases as Transformational Plans are a tool that is still little explored and that have great potential in the framework of Landsenses Ecology as an emerging discipline. This work presents the project ‘Mértola, a Lab for the Future’ as a learning case of a Transformational Plan in the Mediterranean semi-arid region based on Landsenses Ecology. It is a project of agroecological transition, adaptation to climate change and desertification combat that places the local community leadership in the planning of a more sustainable and resilient future. The paper proposes Transformational Plans as a tool to promote networks for the sharing of technical-scientific, political and practical/lay knowledge enhancing a people-centred and place-based change. The learning case methodology follows an analysis showing a set of good governance practices for sustainability, through six transformation domains: access to natural ecosystems, knowledge and culture, systems of exchange, networks, equity, and discourse. Results show a strong articulation between the learning case and the UN 2030 Agenda, highlighting SDGs location and territorialization practices. This kind of projects, which strongly connects with governance and its multilevel and territorial translation, have a great potential for the Landsenses Ecology, contributing to innovate in governance approaches. The same place-based approach could be used and replicated by other territories in the Mediterranean semi-arid region to develop their Transformational Plans for accelerating transformation towards more sustainable territories.
- Patient-centered care for people with depression and anxiety: an integrative review protocolPublication . Pinho, Lara Guedes de; Correia, Tânia Sofia Pereira; Lopes, Manuel; Fonseca, César João Vicente da; Marques, Maria do Céu; Sampaio, Francisco; Arco, HelenaIntroduction: Depression and anxiety are mental diseases found worldwide, with the tendency to worsen in the current pandemic period. These illnesses contribute the most to the world’s rate of years lived with disability. We aim to identify and synthesize indicators for the care process of the person with depression and/or anxiety disorders, based on patient-centered care, going through the stages of diagnostic assessment, care planning, and intervention. Methods and analysis: An integrative literature review will be conducted, and the research carried out on the following databases: MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, CINAHL, Web of Science, TrialRegistry, and MedicLatina. The research strategy contains the following terms MesH or similar: “patient-centered care”, “depression”, and “anxiety”. Two independent revisers will perform the inclusion and exclusion criteria analysis, the quality analysis of the data, and its extraction for synthesis. Disagreements will be resolved by a third revisor. All studies related to diagnostic assessment, care planning, or intervention strategies will be included as long as they focus on care focused on people with depression and anxiety, regardless of the context. Given the plurality of the eligible studies, we used the narrative synthesis method for the analysis of the diagnostic assessment, the care and intervention planning, and the facilitators and barriers.

- Rufina beach and sustainable development: the role of women in Mucajaí, RR, BrazilPublication . Saldanha Veras, Ana Sibelonia; Vidal, Diogo Guedes; Dinis, Maria Alzira Pimenta; Barros, NelsonThe residents around Rufina beach are an unique case of knowledge and experience in a fluvial ecosystem of great ecological relevance in Amazon, vital source to the planet and an important subject for all citizens. Currently, it is also a focus of study in several areas of natural and human sciences, in particular due to the specific role that women play in society. Natural resources, such as forest, soil and water, impose themselves as immediate targets for preservation, particularly by residents who daily experience tourism and withdraw their livelihood from these waters. In line with the goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by United Nations (UN), a global appeal to sustainability in general, this research aims to describe survival and tourism actions in the sparsely populated region located in Mucajaí, RR, Brazil, addressing the important actions of women in this region. The descriptive methodology is directed to the attitudes of citizens around the Mucajaí River. For a good resource management, an awareness raising meeting has stimulated actions to minimize the aesthetic stress on the aquatic landscape, a negative factor for geotourism, and which has as its principle conservation the inclusion of local citizens. It can be concluded that awareness and ecologically correct attitudes, such as the reduction of river pollution, guarantee social and environmental sustainability for all.
- Fishing industry by-products: further applications in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industriesPublication . Ferreira da Vinha, Ana; Barbosa, Joana; Silva, Carla Sousa eThe agro-food industries, including the fishing industry, annually produce large quantities of by-products, whose valuation is still minimal or practical null. Currently, it is known that only a small part is reused for direct animals feeding or for composting. Considering that these by-products contain important levels of nutrients and bioactive compounds, some alternative ways of using by-products from the fishing industry are mentioned, namely for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Nevertheless, the importance of sustainability must be taken in consideration, once it is an overly complex concept that involves economic and social development, without causing major damage to the environment. Biotechnology advances for marine by-products conversion into products of interest are numerous. Despite this, the fish sector is facing several issues such as wild fish stocks reduction while, at the same time, aquaculture rises, augmentation of the importations on a global market, and consumers behaviors. All those influent parameters affect and complicate the definition of an upgrading strategy for the by-products as they directly depend to the raw material processed. In view of the importance that the fishing industry has at international level, this work has attempted to characterize and enhance the by-products generated by this activity, through a detailed description of the nutritional, chemical and biological properties presented in fisheries waste, which can benefit, in the near future, the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
- Beliefs on marital violence among portuguese adolescents: monitoring their evolution and relationship with dating violencePublication . Neves, Sofia; Cameira, Miguel; Caridade, SóniaIn the last two decades, the problem of violence in the family sphere in particular and in intimate relationships in general has been on the agenda for Portuguese governmental and nongovernmental agencies. Several initiatives and campaigns have been launched, which are aimed at reducing occurrence of this violence, particularly among teenagers. This present study aims to assess the evolution in adolescents’ attitudes and behaviors concerning intimate partner violence. We collected data from a sample of adolescents (n = 913) to compare with corresponding data collected 7 years ago by Neves and Nogueira (2010) in a sample that had identical sociodemographic characteristics (n = 899). Both cohorts resided in the same areas in the northeastern region of Portugal. The instruments used were the Scale of Beliefs about Marital Violence (ECVC) and the Marital Violence Inventory (IVC; Neves & Nogueira, 2010). The results indicate that although respondents tend to reject traditional beliefs on marital violence more now than in the past, especially male and older respondents, the percentage of dating violence reports has not decreased. Among girls, there was even an increase in perpetration of emotional and mild physical violence. We discuss possible reasons for this discrepancy between the evolution of attitudes and behaviors and make suggestions for improvement in the actions implemented among teenagers to increase their effectiveness.
