Leite, Isabel CostaAs últimas décadas têm apresentado índices crescentes de imigração proveniente da América Latina em direcção à Europa. Após os anos 80, Portugal passa a receber nacionais brasileiros, pela proximidade cultural e linguística, assim como cidadãos de origem hispânica, nomeadamente, argentinos, chilenos, peruanos, uruguaios e venezuelanos. As relações políticas entre os respectivos países de origem e Portugal permitiram a atribuição de direitos de participação política aos cidadãos latino-americanos, em diferentes níveis de decisão, o que lhes concede a oportunidade de uma maior integração política no Estado de residência. Last decades have presented growing taxes of immigration coming from Latin America towards Europe. After the 80’s, Portugal became the destination of Brazilian citizens, for reasons of cultural and languages affinities, and citizens of Hispanic origin, such as Argentines, Chileans, Peruvians, Uruguayans and Venezuelans. The political relations between the respective countries and Portugal allowed the attribution of political participation rights to the Latin American citizens, at different decision levels, that give them the opportunity of a wider political integration in the state of residence.
