Abstract(s)
The present study aims to identify the indicators that characterize the vulnerability of isolated elderly individuals, relative to the crime of fraud, with a special focus on the subjective perception of the victims. The investigation, complemented by a literature review, seeks to deepen the understanding of this phenomenon in the context of the district of Viana do Castelo. The results of the research reveal that the vulnerability of fraud victimization among elderly people in physical isolation is influenced by factors such as low education, limited digital literacy and dependence on others for their daily activities. The relationship of trust with family members or caregivers, often exploited by the latter, emerges as a significant risk factor. Social isolation, combined with cognitive fragility and dependence on others, creates a conductive scenario of exploitation. The absence of support networks only worsens this vulnerability. It is urgent to implement public policies and specific prevention programs aimed at preventing fraud against the elderly, especially those in vulnerable situations.
