The search for economic development together with the preservation of the environment is an increasingly popular worldwide issue. As bodies for the production and dissemination of knowledge, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) not only work for the research on sustainable methods, processes and technologies, but they also exercise and serve as an example for society with the implementation of sustainable practices. Within the scope of a public university in Bahia, Brazil, sustainability actions, a work team periodically visits the units of the institution in order to guide workers and students on the segregation of waste in suitable containers. Waste such as paper, plastic, glass and cell phone batteries and other electronics device are collected and given proper disposal, which means it can be sent to university units that work on recycling materials, to registered recycling cooperatives or, in the case of batteries, to manufacturers able to recover materials. Green areas’ conservation and fauna’s protection within the University’s campus are also the focus of the team’s intervention. The HEIs Management Reports (MR), institutional communication tools made available from the studied public university, were used to collect the data. This document is based on the Sustainable Logistic Plan (SLP) established by normative instruction n.10, of November 2012. Thus, this work seeks to report waste and green areas’ sustainability practices experiences implemented by a public university, in Bahia, Brazil, in order to highlight the gains for the environment, for the institution itself and for the culture of a sustainable society. Specific aspects around sustainability, with an emphasis on the generation and management of waste is related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the Agenda 2030, are discussed based on data obtained in the institution’s MR.pt_PT
