Perceção de (in)segurança e ligação à comunidade: um estudo desenvolvido no Funchal

| dc.description.abstract | Conhecer a perceção de segurança e/ou insegurança da população, e a ligação desta à sua comunidade de pertença, contribui para o desenvolvimento de programas de prevenção criminal. Este estudo versa sobre a perceção de (in)segurança da população residente, trabalhadora e estudantil da cidade do Funchal, atendendo também ao seu envolvimento comunitário, e foi realizado no contexto do Observatório Permanente de Violência e Crime (OPVC) da Universidade Fernando Pessoa (UFP), num protocolo com a Câmara Municipal do Funchal (CMF) e com a Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) do Funchal. De metodologia mista, a pesquisa segue um desenho exploratório/descritivo, transversal e observacional, recorrendo ao questionário. Os objetivos foram conhecer mais profundamente o que tem vindo a ser estudado e teorizado a respeito das questões da segurança urbana localizada, e conhecer em profundidade a perceção de segurança e/ou insegurança da população do Funchal, bem como o seu envolvimento comunitário. A amostra constou de 1000 participantes, de ambos os sexos, residentes, trabalhadores ou estudantes no Funchal, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 85 anos (M=45.72; D-P=16.64). Os resultados, entre outros, evidenciaram uma perceção de segurança da população (83.3%), com a grande maioria dos participantes a referir uma forte ligação (45.1%) ao local. Conclui-se que, um maior envolvimento comunitário contribui para uma maior perceção de segurança. Realça-se a necessidade de se realizarem mais estudos, antes e após a implementação de programas de prevenção criminal. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Knowing the population’s perception of security or insecurity, as well as people’s connection to their community, contributes to the development of criminal prevention programs. This study regards the perception of security and insecurity of the resident, working, and student popu lation of the city of Funchal, as well as their community involvement, and was produced within the Permanent Observatory for Violence and Crime of the Fernando Pessoa University, in the context of a protocol with the Funchal City Hall and the Public Securi ty Police of Funchal. With a mixed methodology, this study follows an exploratory, descriptive, observatory and cross sectional design. We aimed to deepen the current understanding regarding the matters of localized urban security and its perception among the population of Funchal, as well as their community involvement. Our sample comprised 1000 participants, of both genders, who resided, worked, or studied in Funchal, between the ages of 18 and 85 (Mean: 45.72; Standard Deviation: 16.64). Results revealed that a majority (83.3%) of people perceived the city as secure, and 45.1% stated that they felt a strong connection to it. We concluded that greater community involvement contributes to a stronger perception of security. We emphasize the need for more stu dies, before and after the implementation of criminal prevention programs. | pt_PT |
