| dc.description.abstract | The following study analyses the representation of women in the Resident Evil franchise through a perspective based on transmedia narratives and convergence culture. The research seeks to understand how the expansion of the series into different media formats, such as video games, remakes, live-action films, 3D animated films, and digital platforms, has influenced the transformation of female characters over the past decades. The study focuses primarily on the character Jill Valentine, while also examining other examples of female protagonists and the evolution of their narrative roles, visual representations, and the processes of sexualisation present within the franchise. Furthermore, this work explores the relationship between participatory culture, fandom, and the visual objectification of female characters. Through the analysis of memes, online debates, and reactions from the fan community, the study aims to understand how audiences also contribute to the perpetuation of certain standards of beauty and female representation. The research additionally addresses more recent cases, such as Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem, using them to discuss issues related to female protagonism and narrative agency within the franchise. Methodologically, the investigation is based on a textual and discursive analysis of video games, cinematic adaptations, and content associated with the transmedia narrative universe of Resident Evil. The main objective is to demonstrate that the media expansion of the franchise not only transforms the series' narrative but also reshapes the way female characters are developed as narrative, commercial, and symbolic figures. | eng |
