Abstract(s)
Football is the most widely practiced sport between both genders, with approximately 300 million registered practitioners globally. Due to its increasing adherence, several training methodologies and preventive strategies have been studied in order to reduce the number of injuries. FIFA 11+ is a complete warm-up program that is gaining impact as its practice appears to have positive effects on injury incidence, however its role in enhancing of physical skills essential for performance beyond warm-up is controversial, being extensive and difficult to implement in practice. In this sense, a modified FIFA 11 program has been created. Objective: To evaluate the effects of a modified FIFA 11 warm-up program (FIFA11+mod) on physical skill and performance in semiprofissional senior male soccer athletes. Methodology: were selected 21 healthy athletes with no history of serious injury or disease and randomly divided into two groups (GC: n=10); GF11+mod: n=11). The FIFA 11+ mod program was applied for 3 weeks 3x/week. Each athlete was assessed for explosive strength, quadriceps/hamstrings ratio, vertical jump, speed, agility, flexibility, and perceived exertion. Results: Significant increases were found in the pre-post test for the FIFA 11+ mod group in the variables passive flexibility, vertical jump, Ilinois test with ball and in the 1st moment of perceived exertion. Significant differences between groups for passive flexibility and 1st moment of perceived exertion were also observed. Conclusion: Significant changes were found in some parameters associated with neuromuscular performance, flexibility and agility with ball being the remaining non-existent or negligible differences.
