Abstract(s)
Objective: To conduct a review on the effectiveness and benefits of the intervention of physiotherapy in subacromial impingement syndrome of the shoulder. Methodology: The research was conducted in databases belonging to Pubmed/Medline, B-on and PEDro from which resulted 7 randomized controlled trials in humans published in English between the years 2005 and 2011. Results: This review included seven studies involving 641 patients with methodological classification of arithmetic average 7.5 on the PEDro scale. These studies include different treatment modalities such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, injections of corticosteroids, arthroscopic subacromial decompression, physical therapy and thermotherapy. Conclusions: The evidence from this review indicates that physiotherapy is effective in the treatment of SIS, including manual therapy and therapeutic exercise. The use of physical therapy shows some improvements. It is suggested to perform more randomized controlled studies to confirm long-term results.
