| dc.description.abstract | A Genética Médica tem exposto importantes avanços na compreensão dos processos inerentes à formação dentária, nomeadamente analisando interações tecidulares e, mais recentemente, composição molecular e mapeamento genético. Dependendo da fase em que uma mutação ocorre, podem surgir anomalias dentárias, quer sejam mal formações da cavidade oral, anomalias estruturais das peças dentárias, entre outras. Estudos em diferentes populações situam a prevalência de supranumerários entre 0,36% e 3,2%, sendo o sexo masculino mais afetado. A hiperdontia unitária constitui uma anomalia possível, comprometendo a harmonia oclusal e estética. A expressão equilibrada dos genes é orquestrada por muitos fatores, tornando-se complicado decidir a relação causa-efeito em genética humana. A colheita de antecedentes familiares, achados radiológicos e clínicos intraorais constituem a matéria-prima para o estudo da etiologia e planificação do plano de tratamento. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Genetics has exposed major advances in understanding the processes involved in tooth formation, in particular by examining tissue interactions and, more recently, molecular composition and genetic mapping. Depending on the phase in which a mutation occurs, dental anomalies might arise, whether oral cavity malformations, structural defects of the dental pieces, among others. Studies in different populations have shown that the prevalence of supernumerary lay between 0.36% and 3.2%, with males more affected. The supernumerary teeth will unbalance the occlusal and aesthetic harmony. The balanced expression of genes is orchestrated by many factors, making it difficult to decide the cause-effect relationship in human genetics. Data collection of family reports, radiological and clinical intraoral findings is the first step in the study of the etiology, and treatment planning. | pt_PT |
