Abstract(s)
According to the literature, maximum phonation time (MPT) tends to decrease with age, due to changes in laryngeal structures and a decline in respiratory support. Aim: To associate MPT with age in a higher education community. Methods: Participants produced the sustained vowel /a/ at maximum phonation time. This production was carried out at 3 different times and the average of the values obtained for each participant was extracted. Results: 43 people took part, 31 women and 12 men between the ages of 18 and 61. A slight decrease in MPT was identified with increasing age, although the correlation between the variables was not significant. Conclusion: The relationship between age and MPT revealed a non-significant association in this higher education community, with a slight decline in aerodynamic measurement with advancing age.
