Abstract(s)
“Porcelain”, “Lithium Dissilicate”; “IPS e.max”; “IPS Empress II”.
In order to complete the aesthetic needs that are increasingly demanded by society, dental ceramics have shown a fast development in order to improve their physical, mechanical, and optic properties. The development of new materials allowed the application and progress of fully ceramic systems used in the field of dentistry. For its aesthetic characteristics in relation to ceramic metal systems, fully ceramic systems quickly occupied its place in the market, leading the attention of dentists, and also from the patients. In these ceramic systems, we can find the with lithium disilicate ceramic system. This narrative literature review aimed to describe the characteristics of lithium disilicate ceramics, in order to understand in which clinical situations it can be used and how the laboratory process could be optimized. For this, they were used several databases, Pubmed, Scielo, JADA, and Science Direct, using as keywords: "Ceramic", "Dental Ceramic" "Porcelain", "Lithium Disilicate"; "IPS e.max"; "IPS Empress II." The lithium disilicate ceramic has demonstrated at medium term a good mechanical and aesthetic behavior during clinical use (onlays, single crowns, fixed bridges), if properly selected to the needs imposed by the clinical situation to perform. Thus, the lithium disilicate ceramics is presented as a viable option in the fixed dental restoration, however, its performance is conditioned by correct laboratory and clinical execution.
