Abstract(s)
As periferias urbanas são territórios da composição do espaço urbano em Portugal que durante largos anos foram completamente esquecidas e deixadas ao abandono pelas autoridades competentes. Como estas cresceram à medida das necessidades dos seus habitantes as patologias ficaram indelevelmente marcadas nestas áreas. O seu estudo não prescinde de uma dimensão histórica, que explica como apareceram, qual o seu resultado e como se modificaram essas estruturas ao longo do tempo.
Com a dissertação que seguidamente se apresenta, que é não só do ponto de chegada no conhecimento mas também ponto de partida para pesquisas futuras, desenvolve-se uma reflexão sobre as periferias urbanas em Portugal, recorrendo para isso à descriminação dos fatores que levaram à formação dessas periferias e das suas consequências nessas áreas. O concelho de Espinho foi o caso de estudo escolhido para melhor se compreender o fenómeno de aparecimento e disseminação das periferias.

With the essay that appears below, which is not only a knowledge point of arrival but a point of departure for future research, develops a reflection on the urban peripheries in Portugal drawing on the breakdown of the factors that led training these suburbs and their consequences in these areas. The municipality of Espinho case study was chosen to better understand the phenomenon of emergence and spread of the suburbs.
