Abstract(s)
Em Portugal, tem ocorrido um aumento percentual de nascimentos e sobrevivência de crianças prematuras e de baixo peso representando, segundo o último estudo realizado pelo Instituto Nacional de Estatística, 8,0 e 8,9%, respetivamente, do número total de nascimentos. Este crescimento salientou a importância do entendimento da influência da prematuridade na saúde oral.
Esta dissertação tem, como objetivo primordial, expor uma revisão da literatura sobre as alterações orais que crianças prematuras e de baixo peso ao nascer e apresentar a importância do seu conhecimento para uma melhor prática de Medicina Dentária.
No presente trabalho são descritas alterações como anomalias de esmalte, doença cárie, malformações dentárias e de palato e atraso no crescimento e desenvolvimento dentário.
A revisão bibliográfica foi realizada através do uso de motores de busca com reconhecimento científico nomeadamente PubMed, Scielo, B-on e Google Académico.
Como principais conclusões destacam-se a importância do conhecimento das diferentes patologias orais que a prematuridade acarreta bem como a sua relevância para o melhor acompanhamento no consultório de Medicina Dentária.
In Portugal, there has been a percentage increase in births and survival of premature and underweight children representing, according to the last study conducted by the National Statistics Institute, 8.0 and 8.9%, respectively, of the total number of births. This growth underscored the importance of the understanding that prematurity has in oral health. The main objective of this dissertation is to present a review of the literature on the oral abnormalies that preterm and low-birth-weight children present, and the importance of their knowledge for a better practice of Dentistry. The present work describes changes such as enamel anomalies, caries disease, dental and palate malformations and delayed growth and development of teeth. The literature review was performed through the use of search engines with scientific recognition, namely PubMed, Scielo, B-on and Google Scholar. As main conclusions stand out the importance of the knowledge of the different oral pathologies caused by prematurity, as well as their relevance for the best follow-up in a Dental Medicine practice.
