Abstract(s)
Achieving efficient pulpal anesthesia is the first step to successful endodontic treatment. An inadequate anesthetic diffusion prolongs treatment time and creates stress in the clinician and patient. In this sense, clinicians have to adopt the most effective method to achieve it. This bibliographic narrative review aims to elucidate dentists about the characteristics of intraosseous anesthesia that can make it a valid alternative in endodontics. The methodology consisted of a research carried out in the databases Pubmed, Medline, Scielo and Google Scholar, using the following keywords: endodontic anesthesia, intraosseous anesthesia, irreversible pulpitis and dĆplƶe anesthesia. The intraosseous anesthetic technique is an effective method to achieve pulpal anesthesia of posterior mandibular teeth with irreversible pulpitis when compared to conventional anesthetic techniques. It presents a short latency time, sufficient duration of the anesthetic effect, without affecting the adjacent soft tissues.
