Abstract(s)
O objetivo desta revisão narrativa é avaliar o impacto do sistema estomatognático no
rendimento físico em três populações específicas: atletas profissionais, indivíduos adultos e
idosos.
The purpose of this narrative review is to evaluate the impact of the stomatognathic system on physical performance in three specific populations: professional athletes, adult and elderly individuals. For this, a bibliographical research was carried out in books and scientific journals in the databases B-On, PubMed, Medline, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar with temporal limit (2009-2019). The results suggest that a good occlusal balance can improve athletes' physical performance, prevent dysfunctions and improve overall physical performance in adults, and promote a better balance and performance of daily tasks in the elderly. However, for a better understanding of the role of the stomatognathic system in physical performance and for the therapeutic approach to cease to be an empirical and professional-dependent process, to be systematic and objective, more randomized longitudinal clinical studies are needed and, ideally, with the aid of an artificial intelligence in the correlation of the obtained data.
