Abstract(s)
One type of violence is almost always associated with other types of violence and such episodes of abuse are rarely experienced in isolation, being a multiple and cumulative process. Multiple victimization may increase the likelihood of youth and children experiencing re-victimization. Violence in dating relationships between young people deserves attention in the scientific community, due to its magnitude, the impact it has on victims, their social functioning and mental health. In addition to the probability of constituting a predictor of conjugal violence. The main objective of this study was to investigate abusive dating relationships among young people and to analyze the occurrence of other victimization experiences throughout life. For this purpose, we used the Inventory of Conflicts in the Dating Relationship (CADRI) and to measure multiple victimization we applied a questionnaire to identify the forms of victimization throughout life. The study had the participation of 906 Brazilian university students, with an average age of 23.12 years, 51% women. In relation to experiences of victimization throughout life, 65% said they had already experienced some episode of violence, with psychological and moral violence having a high prevalence of 40%. In dating relationships, we found 99% of victimization and 96% of perpetration. Participants who admitted to experiencing multiple victimization throughout their lives also reported the occurrence of dating violence. This study allowed us to present significant data, making it possible to highlight the impact of violence throughout life, the implications and reproduction of violence in intimate relationships. Such data make it possible to continue in future investigations that propose prevention practices and changes in conceptions regarding the phenomenon of multiple victimization and violence in dating relationships.
