Abstract(s)
Internal bleaching of endodontically treated teeth is an aesthetic treatment used to correct the discolouration of a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate internal bleaching techniques using different bleaching agents, such as hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate and carbamide peroxide, and how they can be optimised to achieve aesthetic results while ensuring clinical efficacy and patient safety. A bibliographic search was conducted in databases including PubMed, Science Direct, B-On, LILACS, MEDLINE, BBO-Dentistry, SciELO, Cochranelibrary and Hindawi. The inclusion criteria were articles published in English, French, Portuguese and Turkish between 2014 and 2024, and available free of charge. Books and studies outside these criteria were also included based on their relevance. The results show that internal bleaching corrects discolouration caused by caries, trauma, and internal debris. Different techniques were compared for effectiveness and patient safety. The choice of method depends on the nature of the discolouration and the condition of the tooth, and multiple sessions are often needed for optimal results. In conclusion, internal bleaching is a valuable technique for improving dental aesthetics. Careful selection of bleaching agents and techniques, along with thorough patient evaluation, is essential to ensure safe and effective results.
