Abstract(s)
O forte crescimento do número de idosos torna-se um sinal positivo do desenvolvimento da sociedade. Porém, este aumento conduz a um acréscimo significativo nos custos de serviços de saúde e sociais, dependendo das condições de saúde e da capacidade funcional que a população idosa apresenta. Considerando que o envelhecimento faz parte natural do ciclo de vida humano, este deve constituir uma possibilidade para se viver de forma saudável, autónoma e independente, o maior tempo possível. Desde cedo, o ser humano deve optar por uma atitude preventiva e promotora da saúde e de autonomia na velhice, pensando no envelhecimento ao longo da vida.
O presente trabalho, versa o tema: "Envelhecimento Activo/Envelhecimento Saudável- opinião dos Idosos do Conselho de Viana do Castelo", tendo como objectivos identificar os conhecimentos da pessoa idosa sobre o Envelhecimento Activo/Envelhecimento Saudável; conhecer os estilos de vida dos idosos face ao processo de envelhecimento; identificar as emoções experimentadas pelos Idosos face ao Envelhecimento; conhecer os factores que os Idosos identificam como condicionantes do processo de envelhecimento e identificar a percepção dos Idosos em relação à morte. Neste âmbito, optou-se por um estudo de carácter qualitativo fenomenológico em que, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas foi possível realizar a colheita de dados a uma amostra de dezanove Idosos no concelho de Viana do Castelo.
Os resultados obtidos permitem compreender que os Idosos ainda não estão familiarizados com o novo conceito Envelhecimento Activo e que dão extrema importância à saúde. Para além destes resultados, através deste estudo constatou-se o tipo de estilos de vida que os Idosos possuem devido ao envelhecimento. Foi também possível detectar que os Idosos são confrontados por uma complexidade de emoções, de carácter negativo, como a tristeza e indignação e de carácter positivo, alegria e felicidade. Através desta investigação, também se percepcionou a ideia da morte nos Idosos em relação à perda, espaço físico e percepção temporal.
The strong growth in the number of elderly becomes a positive sign of the development of society. However, this increase leads to a significant increase inthe cost of health and social services, depending on the conditions of health and the functional capacity of the elderly population. Considering that aging is a natural part of human life cycle, it should be a chance to live a healthy, ondependent and autonomous life, as long as possible. From early on, human beings should have a preventive attitude and promote health and autonomy in old age, thinking on the aging process throughout life. The present work, covers the theme "Active Ageing/Healthy Ageing - the views of the elderly from the city of Viana do Castelo", with the objectives of identitifying the knouledge of the elderly on Active Aging/Healthy Aging; knowing the lifestyles of the elderly bearing in mind the aging process; identifying the emotions experienced by the elderly concerning aging; knowing the factors that older people identify as constraints of the aging process and identifying the perception of the elderly in relation to death. In this context, we opted for a phenomenological studyof a qualitative nature that, through semi-structured interviews that made possible to collect data from a sample of nineteen elderly in the city of Viana do Castelo. The results demostrate that the Elderly are not yet familiar with the new concept of Active Ageing and that they give utmost importance to health. In addition to these results, with theis study it were identified the kinds of lifestyles the elderly have due to aging. It wal also possible to detect that the elderly face a complexity of emotions, of negative nature, such as sadness and anger, and of positive nature, like joy anda happiness. Through this research, we also perceived the idea of death in the eldery in relation to loss, physical space and temporal percetion.
