Abstract(s)
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptomatology and sports injuries in senior rugby XV athletes and associate them with other variables such as: the individual characteristics, characteristics of the activity and also with the characteristics of the injury. Methodology: Cross-sectional observational study. Population was composed of 332 French and Portuguese rugby XV players, 246 men and 86 women, aged between 18 and 40 years. The information for this study was collected from an online questionnaire. Results: Rugby XV players presented the highest complaints/pain in the shoulder/arm and neck regions. Of the most disabling injuries among the 298 injuries: the most frequent area was the knee. Sprain or capsular/ligamentous rupture was the most disabling injury and the one with the longest time out of practice. The tackle was the most damaging game action; injured more shoulder area. Most players who suffered from an injury subsequently sought help from a health professional. Conclusion: There is a relation between the presence of pain/complaint and the position of the players as the advanced position athletes reported more pain/complaints, significantly, in the lumbar area in the last 7 days.
