Abstract(s)
Objective: To evaluate the impact of the Molar Incisor Hipomineralization (HIM) on frontal teeth on children and if its perception is the same on children and parents. Methods: A observational and quantitative survey was made using two enquires, one for children (30) and another for their parents (30), with questions related with the impact that tooth defects can cause on these individuals. The enquires were delivered during the Odontopediatric appointment in Sónia Costa clinic between february and may 2019. Child-Parent answer analysis and, in children, the relation of the impact by age and gender with non-parametric tests using IBM® SPSS® statistics vs 25.0 (α₌0,05). Results: 26.7% of the children show concern with the opacity of the frontal teeth, 23.3% are bothered with it and 16.7% asked to change the color of their teeth. There are different perceptions between children and parents when it comes to: self-awareness, other people/peers comments, between who noticed this defect on the anterior teeth as well as questioning why they have this defect and asking to change it, the parents showed higher degree of concern. Conclusion: This study showed that impact of HIM in children generated higher concern in parents than in children. Gender and age did not have any significant influence in the answers given to the questions.
