Abstract(s)
Objective: To summarize the evidence about the effect of the Biofeedback (BF) technique associated with pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on urinary incontinence (UI) in adult women. Methodology: Computerized search of randomized controlled studies written in Portuguese or English, that assessed the effect of the BF method associated with PFMT on UI, in the PubMed, PEDro and Web of Science databases. Results: 5 studies were selected, whose methodological classification obtained an average of 6,2/10 on the PEDro scale. These studies included 792 women diagnosed with stress, urge or mixed UI. In general, women submitted to the association of BF with PFTM showed improvements compared to the control groups who did not receive the combined BF+TMPP technique, regarding quality of life, pelvic floor muscle strength and severity of symptoms. Conclusion: The BF+PFMT method seems to be effective in increasing quality of life and pelvic floor strength and decreasing UI symptoms severity, although more studies are necessary to prove the effectiveness of this association.
