Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar os desafios existentes na reabilitação de prisioneiros com transtornos mentais em Portugal, com enfoque nas estratégias que podem favorecer a sua reinserção social. A saúde mental no sistema prisional representa uma problemática complexa, marcada por carências estruturais, estigmatização e insuficiência de recursos humanos especializados. Através de uma abordagem qualitativa e exploratória, foram identificadas fragilidades na resposta institucional, tanto ao nível do diagnóstico precoce como no acompanhamento clínico e psicossocial dos reclusos. São ainda abordadas propostas de intervenção que consideram a importância da continuidade dos cuidados após a libertação, bem como a articulação entre os serviços prisionais e os recursos comunitários. O estudo sublinha a necessidade de políticas públicas integradas que promovam uma reintegração digna, sustentável e respeitadora dos direitos humanos, contribuindo assim para a redução da reincidência criminal e para a valorização da pessoa reclusa enquanto sujeito de direitos.
This study aims to analyze the challenges surrounding the rehabilitation of prisoners with mental disorders in Portugal, with a focus on strategies that may promote their successful social reintegration. Mental health in the prison system is a multifaceted issue, often marked by structural deficiencies, stigmatization, and a shortage of specialized human resources. Through a qualitative and exploratory approach, the study identifies institutional weaknesses, particularly in early diagnosis and the provision of ongoing clinical and psychosocial support to inmates. It further presents intervention proposals that emphasize the importance of post-release care continuity and the coordination between prison services and community-based support structures. The findings highlight the need for integrated public policies that ensure a reintegration process grounded in dignity, sustainability, and human rights, contributing to a reduction in recidivism and the recognition of prisoners as rights-bearing individuals.
