Preferência estética na orientação transversal do plano oclusal na reabilitação: perspetiva dos leigos e dentistas

dc.description.abstractObjetivos: Determinar a preferência de Leigos e Médicos Dentistas (MD) na orientação do plano oclusal transversal (PO) em faces com inclinação da linha comissural (LC), e se há diferença entre grupos na perceção de atratividade. Adicionalmente, analisar a influência do sexo, faixa etária e área de atuação dos MD nessa perceção. Materiais e métodos: Estudo transversal. Aprovação pela Comissão de Ética da Universidade Fernando Pessoa. Amostra de conveniência com 236 Leigos e 242 MD que preencheram questionário online para escolher imagem mais atrativa, em seis pares para comparação. Controlo: simétrico (paralelismo entre PO, LC e linha interpupilar (LI)). Alteração do Controlo obtendo-se 3 imagens com inclinação de 3 graus das comissuras labiais. Imagem A: PO paralelo à LI; Imagem B: PO paralelo à LC; Imagem C: PO em angulação média de 1,5 grau entre LI e LC. Comparação nãoparamétrica (IBM SPSS Statistics vs. 27, p<0,05). Resultados: No grupo “MD” a ordem decrescente de preferência (atratividade) das imagens é: Controlo>A>C>B. No grupo “Leigos” é: Controlo>A>(C não ≠ B). MD preferem significativamente mais o Controlo e a imagem A do que Leigos (p<0,001). Sexo (exceção única nos Leigos), faixa etária e área de atuação dos MD não interferiram na perceção da atratividade. Conclusões: Os MD e Leigos preferiram o Controlo quando comparado às imagens com inclinação da LC. Na existência de inclinação da LC, a preferência dos grupos foi pela utilização da LI como referência na orientação do PO, sendo o desvio médio ou coincidente com a LC considerados menos estéticos.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractObjectives: To determine the preference of Laypeople and Dentists in the orientation of the transverse occlusal plane (OP) on faces with inclination of the commissural line (CL), and whether there is a difference between groups in the perception of attractiveness. Additionally, analyse the influence of sex, age and dentist’s area of activity in this perception. Methods: Cross-sectional study. Approval by the Ethics Committee of the Universidade Fernando Pessoa. Convenience sample with 236 Laypeople and 242 Dentists who completed an online questionnaire to choose the most attractive image, in six pairs for comparison. Control: symmetric (parallelism between OP, CL and interpupillary line (IL)). Change of Control, obtaining 3 images with a 3 degree inclination of the labial commissures. Image A: OP parallel to IL; Image B: OP parallel to CL; Image C: OP at 1.5 degree mean angulation between IL and CL. Non-parametric comparison (IBM SPSS Statistics vs. 27, p<0.05). Results: The “Dentists” group decreasing order of preference (attractiveness) of the images is: Control>A>C>B. In the “Lay” group it is: Control>A>(C not ≠ B). Dentists significantly prefer more the Control and Image A than Laypeople (p<0.001). Sex (single exception in laypeople), age and dentist’s area of activity didn’t interfere in the perception of attractiveness. Conclusions: Dentists and Laypeople preferred the Control when compared to images with CL canted. In the existence of CL inclination, the preference of the groups was the IL as a reference for OP orientation, with the mean angulation or coincident with the CL being considered less esthetic.pt_PT
