| dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: Identificar os conhecimentos e as atitudes dos responsáveis face ao flúor e às pastas dentífricas. Perceber como os responsáveis fazem a escolha da pasta dentífrica e que quantidade usam na escovagem dos seus educandos. Métodos: Estudo transversal, por aplicação de um questionário online a responsáveis de crianças com idades compreendidas entre os 6 meses e os 6 anos. Resultados: A amostra foi constituída por 325 responsáveis, dos quais 87,4% disseram conhecer a função do flúor. Dos questionados, 56% afirmou levar com regularidade o seu educando ao médico dentista, sendo que 51,1% destes o faziam de 6 em 6 meses. Relativamente à compra da pasta dentífrica, 50,8% dos responsáveis disse que o fazia de acordo com a “quantidade de flúor indicada para a idade”. Tendo em consideração a concentração/teor em flúor, a grande maioria, 60,9%, referiu ter “sempre” essa preocupação. No que diz respeito à quantidade de pasta dentífrica parte dos responsáveis coloca a quantidade aconselhada. Ao serem questionados sobre a fluorose dentária, 68,9% dos responsáveis desconhecia este termo. Conclusão: Os responsáveis, apesar de afirmarem ter conhecimentos relativamente ao flúor, revelam o contrário quando questionados sobre a sua utilização na prática diária, nomeadamente no que respeita ao critério de compra da pasta dentífrica, à concentração de flúor e à quantidade de pasta que colocam na escova. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Objective: Assess the knowhow of parents/legal guardians and understand how they make the choice of which and how much toothpaste children use in brushing. Methods: Cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire filled in by parents/legal guardians of children from 6 months to 6 years of age. Results: The sample population was composed of 325 parents/legal guardians, of which 87.4% said they knew the function of fluoride. Of those questioned, 56% claimed to regularly take their student to the dentist, and 51.1% of them did so every 6 months. Regarding the purchase of toothpaste, 50.8% of those parents/legal guardians said that they did so according to the “amount of fluoride indicated for their age”. Considering the concentration/content of fluorine, the vast majority, 60.9% reported having “always” this concern. Regarding the amount of toothpaste part of the parents/legal guardians puts the recommended amount. When asked about dental fluorosis, 68.9% of parents/legal guardians were unaware of this term. Conclusion: Parents/legal guardians, despite claiming to have knowledge about fluoride, reveal low understanding of its use in daily practice. The lack of knowhow was mainly related to the purchase criteria for toothpaste, the concentration of fluoride and the amount of toothpaste used daily. | pt_PT |
