Abstract(s)
Introdução: A diabetes mellitus (DM) pertence ao grupo das doenças metabólicas, com diversos sintomas tais como polidipsia e sinais como hiperglicemia e cetoacidose. Segundo a OMS, o número de diabéticos está a aumentar a um ritmo considerável, sendo por isso uma patologia de carácter acrescidamente importante na área médica.
Objetivo: Avaliar a relação entre os diferentes tipos de diabetes e as doenças orais, dando importância ao papel do médico dentista, tanto no seu diagnóstico como no acompanhamento a nível do consultório de Medicina Dentária.
Materiais e Métodos: Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo às bases de dados da PubMed, ScienceDirect, JCDA e B-on. Foram incluídos ensaios clínicos randomizados, publicados entre 1987 e 2021 em língua inglesa.
Resultados/Conclusões: A diabetes mellitus é uma doença sistémica com graves e múltiplas manifestações orais, em que a literatura científica fornece bastante informação, contribuindo para o tratamento destes pacientes na aérea da Medicina Dentária.

According to OMS, the number of diabetic patients is rising at a considerable rythm, being therefore a pathology of added importance in the medical field. Objective: Evaluate the relationship between the different types of diabetes and oral diseases, giving significancy to the role of the Dentist not only in its diagnosis but also in the follow-up at the dentistry clinic. Materials and Methods: A bibliographic search was done using data websites such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, JCDA and B-on. Random clinical trials published between 1987 and 2021 and written in English were included. Results/Conclusions: Diabetes mellitus is a systemic disease with severe and multiple oral manifestations. The scientific literature gives a considerable amount of information about this pathology, making a remarkable contribution to the treatment of these patients in the Dental Medicine field.
