Abstract(s)
The Inferior alveolar nerve block (BNAI) is the anesthetic technique most used by Dentists to anesthetize mandibular posterior teeth. This technique already has some failure rates and a high degree of difficulty, and pathologies such as irreversible pulpitis further increase the inability to obtain successful anesthesia. Preoperative medication, more specifically Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, cause greater efficiency in the BNAI as they allow reducing the release of a set of inflammatory mediators that interfere with the action of anesthetics. The main objectives of this narrative review are: understand the reasons that lead to the difficulty of BNAI, to understand the reasons that can interfere with anesthesia, such as the inflammatory process underlying irreversible pulpitis, and to highlight the importance of premedication -operative, namely NSAIDs, in the success of BNAI.
