Abstract(s)
Oral health is an integral and fundamental part of the general health of the child, so the purpose of this thesis was based on the reflection on the influence, considered as decisive, of the attitudes and knowledge of the parents / guardians of children's oral health at very young ages. This knowledge of the disease in the population is essential for professionals to prioritize prevention, intervention and treatment programs. The present study had as main objective to analyze the knowledge, behaviors and habits of oral health of the children and to relate them to the perception that parents / guardians of education have regarding the prevention of caries disease. A cross - sectional study was carried out through a questionnaire to 136 parents / guardians, with students aged between 3 years and 6 years, in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia nursery in Vila Verde. The factors studied were: children's age, eating habits and oral hygiene, frequency and reason for dental consultation, relating cultural aspects, socioeconomic aspects and oral health habits of caregivers. It is concluded that both the knowledge and the behaviors of parents / guardians can influence the promotion of children's oral health. There is still a significant lack of knowledge of oral health promoter habits. Parents should implement healthy eating practices, supervise the oral hygiene of children, and consult with the dentist regularly as a way to prevent future oral health problems.
