| dc.description.abstract | A associação entre mordida cruzada posterior e os distúrbios temporomandibulares é controversa na literatura ao longo do tempo. Uma oclusão normal é fundamental para o equilíbrio do aparelho estomatognático. As más oclusões podem resultam de anormalidades do crescimento e do desenvolvimento e podem constituir uma influência negativa sobre os músculos da mastigação e sobre as estruturas da articulação temporomandibular, potenciando o desenvolvimento de distúrbios temporomandibulares. A literatura, sugere a existência de mecanismos de proteção nas crianças que impedem o surgimento de sintomatologia articular e muscular. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The association between posterior crossbite and temporomandibular disorders is controversial in the literature over time. A normal occlusion is fundamental for the balance of the stomatognathic system. Malocclusions may result from abnormalities of growth and development and may constitute a negative influence on the masticatory muscles and on the structures of the temporomandibular joint, enhancing the development of temporomandibular disorders. The literature suggests the existence of protection mechanisms in children that prevents the emergence of joint and muscle symptoms. | pt_PT |
