Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito de um programa de fortalecimento muscular baseado no FIFA 11+ Shoulder na proprioceção (senso de posição articular) e na força dos rotadores externos do ombro em jogadores de andebol. Métodos: Seis atletas séniores do Gondomar Andebol Clube completaram quatro semanas do programa FIFA 11+ S (3 sessões/semana). Antes e após a intervenção mediram-se: (1) erro relativo e erro absoluto de reposicionamento ativo para 0°, 45° e 80°; (2) peak torque concêntrico e excêntrico de rotadores externos do ombro, através do dinamómetro isocinético. Resultados: Constatou-se aumento significativo do peak torque concêntrico (25,8 ± 1,9 → 30,2 ± 4,0 Nm; p = 0,042; d = 1,10) e do peak torque normalizado para o peso corporal (34,1 ± 3,0 → 39,9 ± 5,2 %; p = 0,040; d = 1,13). O erro relativo variou apenas com o ângulo (F(2,4) = 10,15; p = 0,027; η²ₚ = 0,835), sendo menor a 45°. Não havendo alterações no senso de posição com o programa. Conclusão: O protocolo melhorou a força concêntrica dos rotadores externos e demonstrou potencial para estabilidade dinâmica, sem alterar globalmente o senso de posição. Os atletas revelaram menor erro relativo em amplitudes intermédias como 45º.
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of a FIFA 11+ Shoulder–based strengthening program on shoulder joint position sense (JPS) and external rotator strength in handball players. Methods: Six senior athletes from Gondomar Handball Club completed four weeks of FIFA 11+ S (3 sessions/week). Pre- and post-intervention assessments comprised (1) active repositioning error (relative and absolute) at 0°, 45° and 80°, and (2) concentric and eccentric peak torque of the shoulder external rotators, measured with an isokinetic dynamometer. Results: Concentric peak torque increased significantly (25.8 ± 1.9 → 30.2 ± 4.0 Nm; p = 0.042; d = 1.10), as did peak torque normalised to body weight (34.1 ± 3.0 → 39.9 ± 5.2 %; p = 0.040; d = 1.13). Relative error varied only by angle (F(2,4) = 10.15; p = 0.027; η²ₚ = 0.835), being lowest at 45°, with no overall change in JPS across time. Conclusion: The programme effectively increased concentric external-rotator strength and showed promise for improving dynamic shoulder stability, while overall JPS remained unchanged. Athletes exhibited lower relative error at the intermediate angle of 45°.
