Abstract(s)
Context: Human Papilloma Virus is the most common virus among the sexually active population. It is estimated that about ¾ of the sexually active population has been exposed to HPV infection. This highlights the importance of prevention, including vaccination against this STI. Usually associated with cervical cancer, the vaccine was, from the outset, targeted at the female audience. However, given the recommendation of HPV vaccination to males (in 2009), our goal was to know what men know about the HPV vaccine. Methods: We chose to follow an integrative literature review according to the steps outlined by the JBI model. Of the 392 studies found, we included 19 according to the previously defined inclusion criteria. Results: We found, through the studies analyzed, that there is a lack of knowledge of men about the HPV vaccine, especially when compared with women's knowledge about it. We found that male knowledge about the vaccine is lower among older men. Conclusion: We believe that this study contributes to the expansion of scientific knowledge for nursing, particularly in the area of Primary Health Care. It is imperative that nurses guide their practices based on evidence. However, we suggest a different methodology, such as meta-analysis, allowing for more real and statistical results regarding men's knowledge of the HPV vaccine.
