Abstract(s)
The recognition of the vital role that a nurse play in professional practice, as they are at the forefront of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease 2019, brought profound and rapid changes, integrating aspects at an organizational level and work-family interaction. Almost half of the Portuguese population (47%) agrees that the pandemic has reduced their quality of life (InƔcio, 2021). Within this population are nurses, who have problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress and health and well-being problems (Silva, 2020). The current research project aims to assess the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 on the quality of life of health professionals at a Private Hospital in the North of the Country. A descriptive, quantitative and transversal study was carried out using the Professional Quality of Life Scale Version 5, validated and adapted for the Portuguese population. The study sample, non-probabilistic intentional, consisted of 48 nurses from the hospital in question. With the results obtained in this research project, we can infer that there are light, moderate and high levels of compassion satisfaction, Burnout and secondary traumatic stress, with a high compassion satisfaction value (42,75), low values for Burnout (20,19) and moderate levels of secondary traumatic stress (23,71). In conclusion, none of the nurses surveyed had a poor quality of life or, therefore, a poor professional quality of life, as there were no high levels of Burnout or secondary traumatic stress. This means that there is no high level of compassion fatigue and there is a high level of compassion satisfaction.
