Abstract(s)
O envelhecimento constitui um dos principais problemas das sociedades ocidentais contemporĂąneas, na medida em que, fruto do menor nĂșmero de nascimentos, o desequilĂbrio demogrĂĄfico tem assumido proporçÔes preocupantes. Para alĂ©m disso, a grande parte dos idosos possui poucos recursos econĂłmicos, Ă© mais frĂĄgil em termos fĂsicos, psĂquicos e sociais, o que os impossibilita de ter um papel activo na comunidade. Perante essas vulnerabilidades, as famĂlias dos idosos tĂȘm vindo a encontrar nos Centros de Dia uma resposta Ă s suas necessidades quotidianas.
Assim, na primeira parte deste trabalho, existe uma descrição dos instrumentos, procedimentos, caracterização dos participantes, objectivos e justificação do estudo. Na segunda parte irei apresentar uma revisĂŁo da literatura no domĂnio do envelhecimento nos seus mais variados aspectos; falarei tambĂ©m sobre o aparecimento e respostas que a valĂȘncia de Centro de Dia pode prestar a esta problemĂĄtica; seguindo-se de um resumido enquadramento geogrĂĄfico e social da Instituição onde realizei o meu estĂĄgio, Associação de Apoio a Idosos e Jovens da Freguesia de Meca.
Na terceira parte do trabalho irei debruçar-me na componente empĂrica desta investigação e que tem como principal objectivo averiguar quais as principais motivaçÔes, que levam os idosos a frequentarem um centro de dia num meio rural? E ao mesmo tempo realizar uma breve caracterização destes idosos.
Por isso, este estudo quantitativo seguirĂĄ um desenho exploratĂłrio e descritivo, apoiado no auto-relato e na anĂĄlise documental.
Esta é uma investigação desenvolvida através do método de inquérito psicossocial e baseado na técnica da entrevista.
Este estudo proporcionou um maior conhecimento acerca da instituição e permitiu concluir que a maior parte dos idosos frequentam o Centro de Dia principalmente devido a problemas de saĂșde, e devido Ă solidĂŁo.
Nowadays the aging is one of the main problems of humanity, it is transforming the most developed societies in aging societies. Most of the elders have few economical resources, are more physically, psychologically and socially fragile. This makes it impossible for them to take an active role in the community. Given these vulnerabilities, the eldersâ families, find in Day Centres the help to satisfy their everyday needs. In the first part of this work, there is a literature review in the field of aging in its various aspects; I will also talk about the appearance of Day Centres and the solutions that they find to this problem; followed by a brief geographical and social description of the institution where I did my internship, Associação de Apoio a Idosos e Jovens da Freguesia de Meca. In the second part of this work, I will present the empirical component of this research which main goal is to enquire about what are the main reasons that make the elders attend a day center in a rural environment? At the same time I will do a brief characterization of these seniors. Therefore, this qualitative study will follow an exploratory and descriptive design, supported on self-reporting and document analysis. This is a research developed through psychosocial survey method and based on the technique of interview. This study provided me a better knowledge of these institutions and allowed me to conclude that most of the elders attend the Day Centre mainly due to health problems and loneliness.
