Abstract(s)
Objetivo: Avaliar o conhecimento e atitude perante a saúde oral (SO) dos enfermeiros (ENF)
CCI do Grande Porto participaram voluntariamente, garantindo-se o anonimato e
confidencialidade.
A adequada
Purpose: evaluate the knowledge and the attitude in oral health (OH) of nurses (ENF) and auxiliary technicians (TA) belonging to the Medium and Long-term Continuing Care Units (CCI). Material and Methods: Observational, cross-sectional and descriptive epidemiological study, a survey was carried out by the author and applied in person through the Google Forms platform, during April and July 2019 and February 2020. Respondents from 5 CCI units in Grande Porto participated voluntarily, ensuring anonymity and confidentiality. Data analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics vs.26 program, using descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests to compare responses by groups (α = 0.05). Results: In a universe of 259 ENF and TA, 145 responses were obtained (55.98% response rate). There is a slight tendency for ENF to have a median number of correct answers greater than the TA. The academic qualification in SO and the years of experience do not seem to positively influence the number of correct answers. Despite the positive attitude of the participants, several flaws in the practice were identified, mainly in the HO methods and the absence in the referral of a dentist . Overall, 31.7% of the professionals considered barriers to the patient's cooperation (80.70%), the absence of monitoring by an MD (63.2%) and the lack of dental material (47.4%). Conclusions: Despite the positive attitude of the caregivers, the practice and knowledge are scarce and should be improved, namely training in OH of the caregivers, the implementation of OH protocols, exploration of the best interventions and methods in OH. Adequate training in OH is an imperative necessity in order to reduce some inappropriate concepts mentioned by the interviewed professionals. The integration of dentists in the teams would be a solution to reduce the existing gaps.
