Abstract(s)
Economic violence is a structural dimension of domestic violence, still frequently rendered invisible in official records and institutional responses. This study analyzed 1,415 cases recorded between 2010 and 2020, aiming to characterize this form of abuse by examining the sociodemographic profile of victims and offenders, their employment status, the types of violence associated, and the main risk factors. The methodology adopted was quantitative, retrospective, and descriptive, using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests to examine associations between variables. Findings revealed that victims were mostly older women, largely retired, while offenders were predominantly adult men, with unemployment emerging as the most frequent employment status. Economic violence was identified in 14.9% of cases, rarely in isolation. It is concluded that economic violence is not a peripheral phenomenon, but rather a central component of domestic violence, closely linked to victims’ aging, offenders’ labor market instability, and substance abuse. These results highlight the importance of public policies that incorporate economic protection measures, promote victims’ financial autonomy, and address unemployment as key strategies for prevention and intervention.
