Abstract(s)
The present work consists of a literature review with the main objective of making the correlation between chronic kidney disease and its direct consequences on the oral cavity. Chronic kidney disease affects a large number of individuals nowadays, being characterized by a structural and/or functional abnormality of the kidney that leads to a decrease in the glomerular filtration rate. Symptoms such as uremia, xerostomia, mucosal pallor, uremic stomatitis can be good indicators for the presence of kidney disease, and for that reason special attention should be paid to these changes. The treatment of this disease involves hemodialysis and, in the dental field, the treatment of the oral manifestations of these patients, which brings an improvement in their quality of life, both personally and socially. Thus, this work can not only help dentists in the diagnosis, but also help to understand in detail the development of kidney disease and its repercussions on the oral cavity, as well as the attitudes to be taken in a consultation with these patients.
