Dentífricos branqueadores: composição, efeitos, eficácia e cosméticos de venda livre em Portugal

Este trabalho teve como propósito efetuar uma revisão descritiva quanto à composição, ações, eficácia e efeitos secundários gerados pelos produtos cosméticos colocados no mercado com indicações de uso de Dentífricos Branqueadores; pretendeu ainda efetuar uma sistematização qualitativa destes dentífricos, disponíveis ao consumidor em Portugal, descrevendo os seus componentes, conforme a informação de rotulagem. Na metodologia de pesquisa incluíram-se artigos de investigação in vitro, in vivo e de revisão descritiva, sistemática e de meta-análise publicados entre os anos 2006 e 2017 na B-On com as palavras-chave: “Whitening Toothpaste”, “Whitening Dentifrice”, “Over The Counter AND Toothpaste”, “Whitening Toothpaste AND Extrinsic Stains”, “Whitening Toothpaste AND Adverse Effects”, “Dentifrice AND Regulation”. A literatura analisada evidencia alguma eficácia dos dentífricos branqueadores na remoção de manchas extrínsecas, no entanto o uso livre destes cosméticos pelos consumidores sem monitorização profissional adequada pode gerar efeitos indesejados na cavidade oral, nos tecidos dentários duros e moles.
The aim of the present work is to do a descriptive revision of cosmetic products marketed as Whitening Dentifrices regarding their composition, mechanism of action, efficacy and side effects; It also aims to qualitatively systematize these dentifrices available to the Portuguese consumer, describing their ingredients according to label information. The research included articles of in vitro and in vivo studies, systematic and descriptive reviews, and meta-analysis published between 2006 and 2017. B-On was used for this search, with the following keywords: “Whitening Toothpaste”, “Whitening Dentifrice”, “Over The Counter AND Toothpaste”, “Whitening Toothpaste AND Extrinsic Stains”, “Whitening Toothpaste AND Adverse Effects”, “Dentifrice AND Regulation”. The literature shows some efficacy of the whitening dentifrices in dental extrinsic stains removing. However, the free use of these over the counter cosmetics by the consumers without adequate professional monitoring can generate undesirable effects in the oral cavity, namely in the soft and hard dental tissues.
