Abstract(s)
Introduction: handball is a sport that is growing. The demand and specificity of their sporting gestures make the shoulder joint complex susceptible to suffering some type of injury. Objective: To analyze preventive strategies implemented in handball players, and to analyze their effectiveness in the occurrence of injuries in the shoulder joint. Methodology: the search was carried out in the Pubmed, Web of Science and PEDro databases. Eligible articles should contain data on shoulder injury prevention protocols for handball players. The methodological quality of the articles was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Checklist. Results: five randomized studies were included, but none complied with items 4.1 and 4.2 of the CASP. The samples included 760 participants, mostly female, over the age of 16. Shoulder injury prevention protocols have not been shown to be effective in reducing pain, contrary to the increase in strength that may be beneficial for injury prevention. Conclusion: the effect of the implementation of preventive programs was not consensual in handball players. More studies will be needed to create effective strategies to prevent shoulder injuries in athletes of this sport.
