dc.description.abstractEste projeto analisa o papel da mulher na sociedade portuguesa durante o Estado Novo (1933-1974), com especial enfoque nas formas de controlo, exclusão política e resistência feminina. Do ponto de vista metodológico, recorre-se a uma abordagem qualitativa, baseada na análise documental e bibliográfica, permitindo interpretar fontes históricas, discursos ideológicos e produções culturais associadas à condição feminina no período em estudo. A investigação inicia-se com o enquadramento do contexto histórico do regime salazarista, marcado por uma estrutura autoritária e centralizada, na qual o Estado exercia um controlo rigoroso sobre a sociedade civil e a vida política. Seguidamente, analisa-se a construção da denominada «ideologia do feminino», promovida pelo regime, que atribuía à mulher um papel predominantemente centrado na família, na maternidade e no espaço doméstico, restringindo a sua participação na esfera pública e limitando as oportunidades de intervenção social e política. São também abordadas as políticas de propaganda e as instituições femininas controladas pelo Estado, que reforçavam modelos tradicionais de género e contribuíam para a exclusão política das mulheres. Por fim, o estudo explora as formas de invisibilidade, participação e resistência feminina, destacando tanto a ausência de representação política como os casos de ativismo cultural, intelectual e político. Demonstra-se que, apesar das limitações impostas pelo regime, diversas mulheres desempenharam papéis de contestação e resistência, contribuindo para a transformação social e para a construção de uma cidadania mais igualitária após o 25 de abril de 1974.por
dc.description.abstractThis project analyses the role of women in Portuguese society during the New State (1933-1974), with special focus on forms of control, political exclusion and female resistance. From a methodological perspective, a qualitative approach is adopted, based on documentary and bibliographical analysis, allowing for the interpretation of historical sources, ideological discourses and cultural productions associated with the condition of women during the period under study. The study begins by contextualizing the historical framework of the Salazar regime, characterized by an authoritarian and centralized system in which the State exercised strict control over civil society and political life. It then examines the construction of the so-called “ideology of femininity” promoted by the regime, which assigned women a role primarily centered on the family, motherhood, and the domestic sphere, thereby restricting their participation in public life and limiting their opportunities for social and political engagement. It also addresses propaganda policies and state-controlled women’s institutions, which reinforced traditional gender models and contributed to the political exclusion of women. Ultimately, the study explores forms of female invisibility, participation and resistance, focusing on both the absence of political representation and cases of cultural, intellectual and political activism. It is demonstrated that, despite the limitations imposed by the regime, a number of women played roles of protest and resistance, contributing to social transformation and the construction of a more egalitarian citizenship following 25th of April 1974.eng
